Childhood Song

I feel safe and floating

in that time, miraculous

and fleeting, my buoyancy

like that of the sailer

who owes his to the raft

gliding over the ocean

so impregnable and vast,

the great body of Love's longing

in liquid form and carrying us

off into a place that is hopefully

better, we pray into the night

so clean and confiding, so meticulous,

so magically small, receptacle of whispers

and fortress of the darkness

whom we enter in sleep and dreaming,

built in the confession of an empty virtue

and granted like a song,

but in our awakening, so much is lost,

forgotten like a friend

from our earliest days.
